Peter Graham ROI
November 26th - December 24th, 2011
We are delighted to welcome Peter Graham back to the Gallery for our Christmas exhibition this year. It may be a dreich November as I write this but the colour and vitality in this group of Peter's paintings dispel anything the weather can throw at us.
Four themes dominate this exhibition – the south of France, Manhattan, grand hotel dining rooms, and vibrant still lifes – and together they illustrate Peter's range and versatility in a very happy group of paintings. Splashes of vivid colour, a grasp of space, movement and depth, and a radiant palette – these are features that attract collectors worldwide to the paintings of Peter Graham, a distinctive and original modern colourist.
Peter Graham was born in Glasgow in 1959 and studied at Glasgow School of Art, graduating in 1980. He left the School to work in film production and following a successful career in editing returned to painting in 1986. In 1990 he won a major British Council Award and became the first UK painter to work as Artist in Residence at The Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Singapore. He was made an Associate of The Royal Institute of Oil Painters, and won the Winsor and Newton Award for non-members. Shortly after, he was elected to full membership of the ROI.
Following a series of exhibitions in London, Scotland and New York, Peter served for a period as Vice- President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and now lives and works in Glasgow, dividing his time between painting in his Greek Thomson studio and travelling the world with his unique palette.
