Paddy DorrianTuscany

I first visited Italy in 1975 as the result of being awarded a travelling scholarship. I decided on Tuscany because the art school had long standing links with San Gimignano and in particular San Agostino, a monastery that took in students and travellers.

As a boy from the Calton to be able to live in San Gimignano and experience Siena, Volterra, Arezzo and of course Florence enabled me to be captivated by renaissance art and architecture.

I revisited San Gimignano in 2005 but this time with my family who have grown to feel as I do about Tuscany. I paint in the afternoon usually in watercolour from terraces, balconies, cloisters etc. The exhibition is quite simply the product of those twelve Tuscan summers.
