Norman Edgar was born in Paisley in 1948.
He studied at the Glasgow School of Art from 1966-70 and then became an
art teacher. In 1990 he gave up teaching to paint full-time. In 1991 he
was elected a member of the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts and
in 1993 he was elected President of the Glasgow Art Club.
He has received portrait commissions from Glasgow University, the Royal
Incorporation of Architects, Edinburgh, Royal College of Surgeons, Glasgow,
Sir David and Lady Hunt, Sir Houston Shaw Stewart, William Grant and Son,
the Royal Infirmary, Glasgow, the Royal College of Obstetricians, London.
One of his most recent commissions was for a portrait of the Princess Royal.
His work is included in the collections of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, Heriot
Watt University, Greenock Art Gallery, Argyll Education Authority, Renfrew
Education Authority, Lord Morton, Guinness Pic, United. Distillers, Lord
Macfarlane of Bearsden, Glasgow Dental Hospital, Pitlochry Theatre, and
in numerous private collections in the USA, Germany and Britain. |
