My creative journey really began when I was a small child but there was a definite point in my life when I became focussed. In my final year of study I formed a fragment of an idea which continues to grow and evolve to this day.
I went on to explore related forms that have multiple overlapping pieces such as fir cones, arthropods, fish, reptiles and the pangolin. Depending on their environment these impressive exteriors have evolved through millennia to be lightweight, streamlined and strong enough to shield the otherwise vulnerable creature inside. In some cases they have become aerodynamic, enabling the creature to fly, and of course they function decoratively with some of the most exquisite displays of colour on the planet. The separate plates fit together with a degree of perfection that human engineering cannot match and importantly, they can slide over each other to allow movement/articulation.
