The Cloth Menagerie

Karen Suzuki, textile artist, Glasgow born and trained at Glasgow School of Art, uses animal forms as a vehicle for exploring the possibilities presented by combining and reworking fabrics. Her work is not particularly representational, but she tries to capture something of the animal’s character. Karen likes experimenting with colour, pattern and texture combinations, and uses thread visibly and freely, like drawing, finding the form through needle, thread and scissors – working intuitively with the fabrics, and cutting, stitching and stuffing until she is happy with the result.

For her solo exhibition she is presenting her ‘soft’ animal sculptures, sitting very happily in a domestic ‘sitting room’ setting in the Gallery window.
