My work explores light and shadow, interiors and exteriors.
I find myself drawn to forms which offer shelter, whether these be in nature or man made. I intend to create a kind of interior sanctuary.
These forms range from boats to eggs to screens and buildings. I’m also attracted to surface patterns referring to those created either in nature or by design: the stripes and grooves on rocks, the weaving of branches and remembered scenes or designs on fabric.
I look at the accidental nature of the marks of time and those we intentionally create. I achieve these effects in my jewellery through curled, curved and layered forms that enable you to see a haven inside or envisage safety beyond. I use gold plate to define the marks and hidden spaces, sometimes applied so as to introduce a softly painted effect.
