William Lee

William is an exciting Korean silversmith, who has continued to work in the UK after completing his training at Camberwell College. He won the Young Designer Silversmith Award in 2003, and his majestic work, fashioned from a single piece of silver or gold, gives ample testimony to his unrivalled skill in raising wonderful sculptural and decorative pieces. All William’s pieces are made from one piece of silver, and are totally made by hand hammering. They are then ornamented by hammering, without addition or reduction. He is probably the leading “hammerman” of all the current contemporary Silversmiths. His work has been in high demand in recent years, and can be found in many Private and Public Collections, including the V&A Museum, many Livery Companies, Pembroke College Cambridge and within the Modern Collection of the Goldsmiths’ Company itself. William loves to undertake the large and majestic “Statement” pieces, but is equally comfortable with smaller, and “tighter” pieces – particularly when he works in gold. His work is simply exceptional.
