Margaret Morris (1891-2000) was a dancer who, while performing in Paris in 1913, met the painter John Duncan Fergusson. They lived together until Fergusson's death in 1961, often collaborating on set and costume designs for her various dance companies. Morris was a talented painter and designer in her own right and usually designed the costumes for her productions in the 1920s and 1930s. This design may relate to Prokofiev's piano pieces, Sarcasms, which Morris could have used as a score for her performances.
