Donald paints predominately landscapes and still lifes. His landscapes are based on things seen on travel throughout the UK. He sometimes combines images and ideas to produce a single work. Donald Manson has little interest in the topographical accuracy of his subject matter. Sometimes his pictures merge still life and landscape. He is interested in painting a moment in time whether that is depicting an ascending moon, a comet in an evening sky or a summer shower. He derives much interest in the changing seasons and associated ideas which he brings to his picture making.
